C# Tutorial

All you need is a PC with a few gigabytes of hard drive space spare and an internet connection to get going.

You can download Microsoft Visual Studio Community by clicking here and selecting 'Download Community 2015'. The program is free and is all the software you will need for this tutorial.

When installing you can choose to have all the components of Visual Studio or select 'Custom' to select just C# which is what we will be using. If you choose to install everything you will also install Visual Basic and other Microsoft tools and it may take some time depending on the speed of your internet connection. You can always choose to install some of the additional things at a later date.

Here's how the installer looks:

If you want to just install C#, go for the custom install then deselect all the options and click 'Install' as shown here:

You'll get some other bits and pieces installed whether you want them or not!

It may take a while to download and install so you can take a look at the next section as you wait. You'll also probably need to reboot at some point.

Once you've got it installed, you should have an icon for 'Visual Studio 2015' in your start menu. When you first start the program you need to log in with a Microsoft account, it's easy and free to create an account if you need to.

On the next screen select the nearest region to you and optionally a website name to work access and share your projects through the internet.

Start Microsoft Visual Studio

Once you're through all that you can move on to the next section to learn more about computers and software.
